Ortelius Atlas Maps
Theatrum Terrarum (Theatre of the World), created by Abraham Ortelius and first published in 1570, represents possibly the most important atlas in history. Considered to be the first true atlas in the modern sense: a uniform collection of map sheets in the form of a book; this amazing compellation of old maps offers great insight into sixteenth century cartography. Abraham Ortelius is regarded as one of the finest cartographers from antiquity and certainly the most prominent of the 16th century. His concern for accuracy and attention to detail make his beautiful old maps both intriguing and aesthetically pleasing. Take a journey back into the early days of global exploration and discovery with old map prints from this renowned mapmaker. There are more images available from the Ortelius Atlas so if you want to inquire about a particular country or region email us.
